The Health Dept is responsible for the proper monitoring of:

9. Enforcement of BRDC Regulations and Local Government Act 2011 and Environment Protection Act 2002
The Health Dept. also implements all policies and decisions taken by the public Health Committee which meets at least once monthly.
1. Scavenging service
The Department is responsible for the organization and supervision of the collection and disposal of refuse and general cleaning in all the 13 villages of the DCBR area. Scavenging service is fully contracted out. A once weekly refuse collection service is provided throughout the Council’s jurisdiction. A monthly scavenging fee is claimed from listed economic operators (as per BRDC Collection and Disposal of Refuse Regulation), but the service is free of charge for residential premises (households). Main roads are swept and cleaned every day.
Scavenging service also include mowing of grasses, spraying of herbicides on public places and District Council premises and cleaning of drains.
2. Complaints
Complaints received at the Health Dept are attended to within a delay of 1 week and complainants are informed accordingly of any outcome and actions initiated

Regular control and inspection of business premises are carried out to ensure compliance within DCBR Regulations.
The Health Dept is also responsible for establishing contraventions and prosecute offenders in court.
As per the District Council of Black River Collection and Disposal of Refuse Regulations 1997 and the Environment Protection Act 2002, all barelands should be kept clean and free from undergrowth at all time.
The Health Department is responsible for monitoring of barelands, legal actions are taken against all known owners who fail to do so as per above regulations.
8. Rodent control
Rodent control is carried out in-house. Different baits are used to maximize efficiency, namely Bromadiolone and Floucamafen.
Baiting is done once monthly mainly in:
(i) Public drains
(ii) Housing Estates
(iii) District Council premises
(iv) Barelands near residential premises
(v) Cemeteries
9. Enforcement of DCBR Regulations
The Health Dept enforces the following regulations within the jurisdiction of the DCBR
(i) Local Government Acts 1989 and 2003 as subsequently amended
(ii) Collection and Disposal of Refuse Regulation
(iii) Cemeteries Regulations
(iv) Market and Fair Regulations etc.
